Amazon’s Next Blow in the Streaming Video Fight
The latest news in the fight for streaming video service supremacy is that Amazon is testing a month-to-month billing option for their Prime service. Conveniently enough, the tested monthly price point is $7.99, which just so happens to be the same as Netflix and Hulu’s monthly cost.
I believe that the outcome of this fight will ultimately be decided by superior selection of content, but at this point the major players seem to be neck-in-neck. This new price modeling, while actually a bit more expensive than the $79 for a yearly Prime membership, offers customers apples-to-apples price comparison and less commitment.
I wonder if the team over at Amazon Instant Video is working on an “Import Queue from Netflix” feature?
Update: Interestingly, this tip on t3kd.com on how to export your Netflix queue has mysteriously gone missing. Perhaps Netflix is cracking down on letting users take their queue data with them?
